Well, I Guess Maybe We Can't....
I'm not a flyer-giving-out type chick, but OneHalf of the Married Couple asked me to give out some Obama flyers this morning. She was quietly fired up after having traveled out to the Meadowlands the day before to Obama's rally. OneHalf is one of those chicks that's real serene on the outside; dreads always neatly coiffed, colors coordinating nicely, softly spoken. The only giveaway that maybe she's not quite as serene as she looks is that her kids are insane. Exuberant. Ebullient. Dramatic. Bouncy.
So when I saw OneHalf on Monday evening at the school pick-up she said quietly, "I saw your man today."
"Oh yeah?" I asked... she'd sent an email at like 2AM Monday morning that she was going, so I knew who she was referring to, "what'd you think?" She only smiled.
"Inspiring" I offered?
"Yes!" she said. "That's it. Inspiring!"
And then I got roped into handing out flyers at the corner of 103rd and Lex. People were grumpy. Only one woman smiled as she took the flyer "I already did!" Then she came back and got another one. But most folks either steered clear of me, put their hand up, or took one begrudgingly.
I didn't get to vote until this evening. I took the Sun with me into the booth, and showed him how to pull the levers, and told him how proud I was to vote for a man of African descent. It really is pretty cool. And about fucking time.
Then I came back home and after dinner started to watch the results come in... Obama is giving the best run I've seen by a "Black" man in a long long time, but... obviously it's not The Time. There'll be No Change this go round...
McCain for President! Cuz I'll be damned if I put another Clinton in office.
CNN's Election Center 2008 is very informative and easy to figure out. Worth exploring...

I got a call today asking me to go door-to-door for Obama. I'm considering it.
It IS cool to take your kid into the booth; makes you feel like you're teaching them something special...
