Poppy Revealed

No, I haven't done anything yet, except edit this picture, which I need feedback on... I'm supposed to submit it. But I'm wondering if I should just do a retake?

Anyway. Poppy's big shout out is that he has been awarded the 2008 Anisfield-Wolf Lifetime Achievement Award, "

Take another one and post it if this one is not what you want. OTOH, I actually think this one is good. Makes me feel as I'd like to sit down and find out what he's thinking.

I like this picture, but I don't LOVE it. It captures Poppy's seriousness, his depth - but not his humor and vitality. I've spent a decent amount of time watching him because for a while I was a bit intimidated by him. And what I saw as I watched him watching all of you is that he is frequently amused by all that surrounds him. Somehow, that amusement (is it cliche to say the twinkle in his eye?) is missing from this picture.

Congratulations to Poppy on the award. That is a pretty freakin' cool! No other words for it.

I agree, take another one and use this if you don't get anything you like.

Yeah, the problem with the retake is that Poppy is being a Scorpio about the whole thing...

for some reason, it kinda reminds me of a photo of Gordon Parks I once saw...
personally I like it, it captures his depth, but it is definitely a "serious grownup" kind of picture.
irony

he has the same pose as me

or i as him since i respect my elders

You, mr. all-mi-t, have narcissistic tendencies, which I rather like in a person, seeing as how I have them myself. But I suppose it's a very "scholarly" pose. Poppy purposefully recreated it from an earlier picture of him taken in the '60's by a photographer friend of his...

HA! Is that the real reason you aren't so sure about it? Cos it's not as spontaneous/natural as you would like it? Perhaps he was concentrating too much on the recreation, himself, to be true to his current "self." I agree, I would wish to see his natural bemusement come through. :)
