There's a huge portion of us in America that are just as "raceless" as you are, descended from several different people (including me)... believe me. We don't have a race...Being Brazilian is confusing. We don't have a race. We're all different colours and we're so mixed up that we don't even bother trying to separate ourselves by race. My Grandpa on my mother's side is Black, while his wife is a descendent of Portuguese settlers in Brazil. My Grandpa on my father's side is of Italian descendency, while his wife has half-Greek, half-Native Brazilian. We also have a need to make one classification "better" than the other. But I think I disagree about SES.... though you're right about it in that it a big "qualifier". But in this country you have the added "bonus" of SES tying in to racist stereotypes.
